Theme: New Challenges for information literacy

Opportunities for new successes

Lisa Hinchliffe, University of Illinoise, USA

In
a relatively short period of time, information literacy has gone from a
new area for activity in libraries to a central concept of developing
instructional programs, both inside libraries and in other
organizations. As we pause to consider where we are today, we recognize
that our success has brought us to a place of new challenges. We must
also recognize that it also brings new opportunities. By recognizing the
changing information ecologies in which we work, taking a lifetime
perspective, and incorporating considerations of cognition, affect, and
disposition, we are poised to meet the challenges, take the
opportunities, and find ourselves at a new point of success.
