IFLA/FAIFE: TRANSPARENCY, GOOD GOVERNANCE AND THE STRUGGLE AGAINST CORRUPTION

Málstofan var haldin kl. 9.00-16.00 í fyrirlestrasal Þjóðarbókhlöðu.
Mikil umræða hefur átt sér stað undanfarna mánuði um mikilvægi þess að standa vörð um frelsi allra þjóðfélagsþegna til upplýsinga og þann vanda sem getur orðið ef það er skert. Alþjóðasamtök bókasafna (IFLA) hafa lýst því yfir að þungamiðja ábyrgðar í starfi bókasafna og upplýsingamiðstöðva sé að styðja við og efla grundvallaratriði vitsmunalegs frelsis og veita óhindraðan aðgang að upplýsingum.
Á málstofunni verður fjallað um hlutverk bókasafna á þessu sviði og hvernig þau geta sinnt því. Umsjónarmaður og aðalfyrirlesari er dr. Paul Sturges, prófessor emeritus við Loughborough University í Bretlandi og verður dagskráin á ensku.
Málstofan er haldin á vegum IFLA/FAIFE. Hún er framlag námsbrautar í bókasafns- og upplýsingafræði til 100 ára afmælishátíðar Háskóla Íslands og jafnframt fyrsti liður á 55 ára afmælisdagskrá greinarinnar.

The International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA)?s Freedom of Access to Information and Freedom of Expression (FAIFE) Committee is proud to present a Workshop introducing the content of the IFLA Transparency Manifesto at the University of Iceland on February 8th 2011.
FAIFE?s policy in the 2000s has been to expand the professional vision of Freedom Expression issues, in line with its interpretation of the United Nations? Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 19. After a full process of consultation and drafting, FAIFE?s Transparency Manifesto was accepted as IFLA policy in 2008 and learning materials for workshops on the topic were then drafted. Previous workshops had dealt with the IFLA UNESCO
Internet Manifesto, and Public Access to Health Information. Pilot Transparency workshops took place in India, lead by Kai Ekholm (Chair of FAIFE 2009-) and in Vietnam lead by Paul Sturges (Chair of FAIFE 2003-9).

Paul Sturges, Emeritus Professor, Loughborough University, UK, who was awarded the rank of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen?s Birthday Honours List, 2010, will lead the Reykjavik workshop. The
